Seeds of Research

The Pies Descalzos Cartagena Educational Institution promotes training in research, which significantly and comprehensively strengthens student learning. Upon reaching the last grade, students must, as a degree requirement, present a research project that they have been developing since grade ten, thus generating a Research Seedbed. This seedbed emphasizes the strengthening of argumentative, proactive and socio-emotional competencies that our students will need now and in the future.

The eleventh grade students presented their research projects in the school facilities. An external jury participated, who pointed out that this type of pedagogical experiences “should be replicated in many other institutions, thus generating significant learning in the field of research.” This year’s topics were relevant and customized to local issues such as “The mistreatment of women in the community of San Bernardo” (where the school is located), “Informal commerce on the beaches of Blas del Teso” , “The contribution of language and dance to the palenquera culture”, “Social networks”, “The low level of reading and writing among students” among others.

These research projects show how the Pies Descalzos Foundation is committed to an integral intervention model that generates quality in learning and educating not only for the present but also for the future, giving students useful tools for their future working or university life.
