Scholastic Citizenship

Scholastic Citizenship is conceived as a strategy to reach the soul of young people, bringing them closer to their reality promoting participation.

This initiative, of the International Organization of Pontifical Right created by Pope Francisco, seeks to generate spaces for the solution of daily problems. There the language of football is used as a strategy to reach young people and get their attention; Sport is used as an excuse to motivate them to self-discovery and to recognize themselves as active actors todays connivance.

During the first visit of the Pontifical Right International Organization to Barranquilla, healthy coexistence was encouraged through proposals based on the context and social problems of our community. Thus, for this second occasion, we continue with the process that has already begun and is intended to provide students with tools for a better future.

With support of the Mayor of Barranquilla, I.E.D Pies Descalzos Foundation was the main headquarter where most of the activities took place; putting both academic and sport spaces at the service of the community.

102 youngsters from different schools in Barranquilla participated in this activity; also 9 students from ninth grade of the IED Pies Descalzos Foundation. Also: Pope Francisco took part of the activity through a simultaneous videoconference in several countries, the Secretary of Education and the Mayor of Barranquilla.

There were 3 days of multiple ludic-pedagogic activities, where participants had fun while learning and creating awareness of the value  of tools we must have in order to build a peaceful future.
