2018 Spelling Bee

Over the last few days, in the library of Pies Descalzos-Barranquilla, the most anticipated event for all children in third, fourth and fifth grade took place. After months of preparation, hours of practice, and the constant support of teachers in the English area, at last, with great fanfare, The 2018 Spelling Bee was finally held.

This initiative was born years ago as part of a program of institutional strategies aimed at identifying and increasing children’s interest in English as a second language, and to enhance their abilities in this field.

The Spelling Bee is a hard-fought spelling contest that takes place among the students. Word after word, round by round, participants have the opportunity to show their language skills.

The methodology:

If the student does not succeed, he is disqualified. If he spells the word correctly, he advances to the next round with a more complex level of difficulty.

The contest is divided by grade, and each grade has its own winners. Only students of the same grade compete with each other. The five participants from each grade with the highest number of correct answers are declared the winners. It is fundamental that the students know not only which letters make up the word, but the pronunciation of the word itself.

We would like to recognize the effort and dedication of the teaching and administrative staff in preparing this activity. The learning of a second language is so important within the Pies Descalzos Model of Intervention.
