San Pancho, Patron of The Chocoanos

The Fiestas de San Pacho, celebrated every year in Chocó, have been declared a cultural and intangible heritage of humanity. That is why the recognition of cultural traditions within the community itself is fundamental to quality education.

Students from the preschool grade school of Quidó had a special experience with the Chocoano culture by participating in the celebration of the San Pacho fiestas. Festivities in 2018 included a special tribute to the Chocoano women, who, according to event organizers, enhance the festivities.

San Pachito

The celebration of the smallest children is called “San Pachito.” In this activity, children from the lower grades of the Quibdó schools are the protagonists. The objective of the activities developed is to motivate students to appropriate their Chocoano culture.

Also, students from the María Berchmans school dance group, teachers and directors of the Antonio Ricaurte school and volunteers from the Pies Descalzos Foundation participated in the parade of myths and legends, where to the sound of chirimía they crossed the Franciscan Route, that is to say, to visit the twelve traditional Franciscan districts.

We believe that commemorating traditions is also a significant way of educating. Thank you to the entire teaching team that made the development of this activity possible.
